She Paddles Classes
Learn to kayak with awesome like minded women

Our she paddles classes are open to women and non-binary individuals 18 and over. All she paddles classes are led by passionate female kayaking instructors who value the opportunity to get more women involved in this fantastic activity. The She Paddles classes are designed to enhance kayaking skills, boost confidence, offer social opportunities, and provide a lot of on the water fun. The classes go from complete beginners in level 1 to more advanced paddlers in subsequent levels. No kayaking experience is required to join our level 1 classes and only a basic level of fitness is required to participate. To join level 2 and above you must have completed the previous level or have the equivalent skills. If you need assistance deciding what level is right for you please contact us.

Class info: This is the class for absolute beginners. You will learn all the skills needed to paddle a sit on top kayak in calm enclosed flat water environments.

Class info: Completed the She Paddles Level 1 course and want more or already have basic skills?
In She Paddles Level 2 you learn the skills you need to paddle along flat water rivers and lakes on sit on top kayaks including self rescues!

Level 3 $289
Class info: Ready to progress to a sit in kayak? In She Paddles Level 3 you transfer your flat-water skills to sit in kayaks, start learning about more challenging water bodies and plan your own paddle with your group!
Location: West Fyans Street Boat Ramp, Newtown & 1 group choosen location!

Level 4 $345
Class info: Whether you want to paddle on the ocean waves, tackle tides or ride river rapids this level gives you the basic skills to start your moving water journey. You will learn to use a spray skirt safely and start working on more technical skills.
Location: West Fyans Street Boat Ramp, Newtown, Geelong & 1 moving water location chosen by your instructor

Level 5 $345
Class info: You have the skills to start trying out moving water so lets go! In She Paddles Level 5 you will start learning how to read moving water, catch eddies in current, try out kayaking in waves or swell and learn the beginnings of partner assisted rolls!
Location: The first session of your course will be at West Fyans Street Boat Ramp, Newtown, Geelong. For the other sessions your instructor will choose the best place in the Greater Geelong area to learn that day and notify you the day beforehand.

Level 6 $345
Class info: Completed the She Paddles Level 5 intro to moving water and ready for more? She Paddles Level 6 develops your moving water rescue skills, improves your partner rolls all while experiencing more of the more challenging kayaking locations around Greater Geelong.
Location: The first session of your course will be at West Fyans Street Boat Ramp, Newtown, Geelong. For the other sessions your instructor will choose the best place in the Greater Geelong area to learn that day and notify you the day before.

Equipment Requirement: You must bring a brightly coloured pea less whistle on a lanyard to all your sessions.

Frequently asked questions
What should I bring?

A warm layer to wear on the water if needed e.g. fleece, waterproof jacket

What should I wear?

Clothes you don't mind getting wet and that don't absorb water e.g. active wear or wetsuit

Closed toed shoes you don't mind getting wet e.g. old runners, wetsuit shoes (location dependent)

Please no jeans, cotton or down jackets
Will I fit in?
Yes you will! We have had women from 18 to 85 in our classes, from many different backgrounds and experiences. We love having a diverse group of women out on the water with us and so do all the women who paddle with us.
What facilities are available at the meeting spots?
Werribee River Canoe Launch - Parking, no toilets are available here
West Fyans Street Boat Ramp Newtown Geelong - Parking, toilets and a water fountain
Do I really not need any experience for level 1?
You don't need any experience at all to join level 1. It is completely fine if this is your first time getting in a kayak, we will support you to get the most out of your experience and cheer you on the whole way.

How often do you run the She Paddles Classes?
We run the She Paddles classes multiple times throughout September to May. During the months of June, July and August we don't stop kayaking we still do series of weekly social paddles to different locations each week!
Am I fit enough to participant?
All you need to join in is to be able to do 90 minutes of gentle exercise with lots of breaks.
What happens in bad weather?
We kayak in all weather that is safe to do so including rain. Should the weather be outside of our risk tolerance levels we notify you by email and postpone the class, it is normally made up at the end of the series.
